Types of Shutters We Install, Repair & Maintain
Now, let’s talk about repairs:
With break-ins issues in Perth, ensuring your shutters are working effectively is critical.
Did you know that Western Australia has the highest rate of break-ins in any Australian state? Every year, there are around 25,000 dwelling burglaries, 8,000 non-dwelling burglaries, and 30,000 property damage and arson cases in WA.
Virtually impenetrable, shutters are the simplest and most effective means of protection against these break-ins – but they require to be repaired and maintained to ensure they operate effectively.
How long will it take for shutters to be repaired?
The time it takes to repair will depend on the type of shutter and the kind of problem. If the shutters are stuck, then applying some WD40 and a little elbow grease can resolve the issue in under 15 minutes. The same goes for proximity sensors, which may need a clean to ensure the roller shutters are working properly. If you have a functional problem, such as a misaligned track, then you are looking at a fix that could take a number of hours. You will have to call a specialist to take a look and for a repair.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT ROLLER SHUTTER REPAIRS
My shutter got stuck; how do I fix it?
You can fix it by spraying the components with a lubricant like WD-40. If this doesn’t solve the problem, let us know straight away.
How do you fix a broken roller shutter?
This depends on the type of shutter problem. Applying WD40 can resolve any friction issues. If you have a broken slat, then you will need to contact the company and ensure you get an exact replacement. If the chain has become dysfunctional, then you need to get a new one by contacting the manufacturer. If the door is not opening or closing fully, then the sensors might need to be adjusted or cleaned. Many of the issues are simple fixes. But there does come a time when you will need a replacement.
Do I need to maintain my shutter?
Yes, if you live in rural areas, it’s best to have it maintained every six months. In coastal areas, we suggest maintenance checks every two months. If you need help maintaining your shutters, let us know.
How do I maintain my shutters?
Maintenance is simple but often overlooked. Every 3-6 months or so, ensure you are applying a lubricant (typically WD40) to the chain and other areas that are subject to friction. You will also want to clean the shutters from debris using a mild detergent. This includes the side guides, the inside, and the pelmet. Be careful when cleaning the side guides – unlike the surface areas, you need to use low water pressure so it does not become misaligned. Painting the shutters every now and again is also a good idea, as it gives an improved look and protects against the elements.
Can you spray shutters?
After a thorough cleaning, you can apply paint on them for a new look and some added protection. The golden rule here is that you use metal spray paint. If you use the wrong kind, it will result in cracking. You will also want to paint on a dry day and ensure you have enough at hand so you don’t run out. The beauty is that even if you don’t think they are the most aesthetically pleasing, you can simply apply spray paint over it – you now have powerful shutters that perfectly complement your home. Many manufacturers can paint them prior to installation, but you can also paint them afterwards.
How often should shutters be serviced?
Regardless of your location or the type of roller shutters, we recommend them to be serviced every 3 to 5 years.
